Routine Pregnancy Appointments

Weeks in Pregnancy Tests
6-10 weeks First prenatal visit with early ultrasound
Prenatal labs typically including: 

  • Blood type and antibody screen
  • Complete blood count
  • Screen for HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B, hepatitis C and rubella
  • Varicella (if you’ve never had the chicken pox)
  • Urine culture
  • Cystic fibrosis, SMA and Fragile X carrier screening test
  • Sickle cell screening test (if you are at high risk)
6-10 weeks Optional testing:  Chorionic villus sampling (CVS) or Non Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT)
12 weeks Optional testing: Ultrasound to augment your NIPT or Amniocentesis (invasive test)
16 weeks Blood pressure, urine check, fetal heart beat check, AFP level (blood test for open neural tube defects)
20 weeks Ultrasound (and doctor visit on same day).  Gender may be found out at this time if not found out on NIPT. Blood pressure, urine check
24 weeks Blood pressure, urine check, fetal heart beat check & fundal measurement
28 weeks Gestational diabetes screen, blood count, urine culture; Tdap vaccination, Rhogam injection if indicated (for Rh- women), Blood pressure, urine check, fetal heart beat check & fundal measurement
30 weeks Blood pressure, urine check, fetal heart beat check & fundal measurement
32 weeks Blood pressure, urine check, fetal heart beat check & fundal measurement
34 weeks Blood pressure, urine check, fetal heart beat check & fundal measurement
36 weeks Growth ultrasound, Screening for Group B strep, blood count, blood pressure check, urine check, fetal heart beat check, cervical exam 
37 weeks Blood Pressure, urine check, fetal heart beat check, cervical exam & fundal measurement
38 weeks Blood Pressure, urine check, fetal heart beat check, cervical exam & fundal measurement
39 weeks Blood Pressure, urine check, fetal heart beat check, cervical exam & fundal measurement
40 weeks Blood Pressure, urine check, fetal heart beat check, cervical exam & fundal measurement
